- The UK is one of the largest music markets worldwide (it ranks fourth after US, Japan and Germany)
- In 2015 generated a income of nearly 690 million pounds
- Over half of this came from digital sales
- The sale of physical music is declining rapidly
- 2/3 of UK adults stated spending up to two hours a day listening to music (2015)

- Music videos can have a massive impact on society shown through Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' and more recently, Childish Gambino's 'This is America'
- Before the internet music videos were mostly for MTV and artists focused mostly on selling CDs
- Now people have more of a choice in what they listen to and what music videos they watch
- Music videos aren't just about interesting content for the fans but educating artists on the algorithms and how to maximise them
- Even just lyric or behind-the-scenes videos are important to promote the artist
- Official music videos are also important to establish a band's aesthetic and cement it into the public mind
- This is shown through Dua Lip's 'New Rules' the music video to the song made it extremely popular as it was a relatable and fun video

The song I have chosen for my coursework is a mix of pop and rock which is a couple of the two most popular genres for 16-24 year olds.

- A report shows that rock and pop are two of the most popular genres, the music I have chosen is a mix of pop and rock suggesting that it will be enjoyed by many
- This is shown for singles and albums, as I am releasing a single the statistics for singles are important in showing what genre will be popular
- Also in this report, statistics are shown for age ranges and how much each spends on physical or digital music
- As expected teenagers and young people spend more on digital music, I will be releasing only digital music which will work well for my age range according to the statistics
