Media industries

There are three main companies in the UK that censor media and decide if they are appropriate.

These are:

BBFC-British Board of Film Communication- Started in 1912

They censor media and choose film ratings. All media that is distributed in the UK must go through the BBFC. Even though they don't have any power, they are wildly trusted on what film rating that film should have. The organisation also rate games. The BBFC focus on four main subjects when deciding the rating of a film. These are nudity, sexual scenes, violence and swearing, there are of course other themes to look at and focus on. The organisation say they listen to the public to decide what is appropriate and what isn't, they want to know what parents would believe to be acceptable for their children and what the rest of the British public think.

IPSO- Independent Press Standards Organisation- Started in 2014
